Frequently Asked Questions

What is the cost to install a septic system?
The cost varies based on the type of system and drain field being the main considerations.

We can give you a rough estimate of cost. The some of the factors affecting the price are the type of system, are we able to use the current tank and the county you are located in. However, there are a couple of steps that need to be completed first.

Do I need a Permit to install a septic system?
Yes. Michigan requires a special permit to install a septic system.
Do I need to get the permit, or will you get it for me?
You can get the permit. Or, if you prefer, we can handle the permit process for you.

Ok. I have the permit. Let us get the septic tank and drain field installed.
Sorry to slow you down. However, getting a permit is just the first step. Once you have the permit the county health department schedules a time to come out to perform a site evaluation often referred to as a perk test. This determines what type of soil you have and the type of septic system you are allowed to install on the property. It sets the parameters as far as the square footage required, tank size and drainage requirements.
We can assist with the soils sample (perk test sample) as it requires digging to a reasonable depth. Some people refer to this as soil samples, backhoe cut, or perk test.

How long does this process take?
The process is usually completed within a week. It is not something we have control over, but the mid-Michigan health departments do a good job of being on top of the process.
Are you saying there is more than one type of septic systems?
Yes. There is the underground system everyone is familiar with. There is also what’s called the “Mound System.”

Mound system? That sounds ugly. That’s not what I want!
The county health department determines which system is required. We can only install what the county authorizes! It is in everyone’s best interest as they are working to keep the groundwater safe for people and animals. The mound system can be landscaped to add a beautiful spot to your property. We can share some ideas with you to point you in the right direction.

OK we have the permit the county health department has determined what we are allowed to install for the septic system. Are you now able to give us a firm price?
Yes, we are happy to provide the final quote and to get started on your project.
How about financing for our septic system?
We have financing options available for your convivence or you can arrange your own.
